Organizational Transformation

  Sustainability vs. Profitability

Private sector organization must balance the dynamic tension between their requirement for profitability

and their commitment to business best practices that promote sustainability in products and services. NGS
believes that there is no conflict, that with the right focus and innovative thinking, the efficiencies of the past

become the sustainable behaviors of the future.

The latest focus for successful organizations and their leadership is “sustainability.”  Yet both public and private
organizations are also measured on financial success.  The emerging result from our work suggests there is no conflict.

In fact, with the right focus and innovative thinking, the efficiencies of the past become the sustainable behaviors of the future.

Our students and their sponsors have long been driving process improvement focused on increased throughput
and improved first pass yield. Upon reflection, these goals are the basis for sustainable processes – the basic
elimination of waste. When the definition of waste is expanded, and the focus on key drivers is crafted to include
resource use, energy consumption, carbon footprint and environmental health and safety, the same opportunities
which drive profitability drive sustainability.  It is a natural outcome of energized teams, sponsored by forward
thinking organizations, and guided by experienced educators.
